I am having the exact same problem. ALL the Friedrich air conditioners - now and even 3 or 4 years ago when I researched it - that even come close to the J window specs (under 6500 BTU's) are either 12' or 14' high.
Yet Parkchester indicated that they "found that the AC units manufactured by Friedrich are properly sized for the new windows." But the specific criteria for the J window are that it can be between 15' and 15.5' high and must be between 19.5' and 20' wide.
So I was looking at the
Friedrich XQ06L10A and the XQ05L10A, but I never got, and now am afraid to because the office is confirming it really must be at least 15' high, and that this won't work. Funny, last time I called some time back, a girl told me that because of the mounting materials, it would fit. I was a bit leary then, and before you knew it the summer was over. This time though, no such luck. Their materials say Friedrich AC's work, but then all of the applicable Friedrich's are not tall enough. So which is it?? When I asked Parkchester for guidance as to which specific Friedrich models work, they don't have any answers. I asked again today, and was told they have installed some LG's and Samsungs, but she didn't know the models (and I can't even be sure they were installed into J windows).
Samsung's website was not user friendly at all. I got so frustrated with their layout and search function based on Price Range in terms of "R's. ,000" (wt?) that I just closed the window. (Couldn't they have search criteria in terms of BTU's or something?)
And when you go to
LG's site, the only unit that matched the BTU limitation, the LP6000ER, has no real specs. I always thought highly of LG's products, but if they can't be bothered to place simple DIMENSIONS somewhere in the specs and downloads on their own product website, I really have to think twice.
This is ridiculous. I have lived here for several years, and began the search before, just got tired of worrying about it, and then soon enough, the summer would be over, so I never got one....but we just had a sweltering day yesterday, so I'm looking again. It is soooo frustrating to have to suffer, and not be able to get any real guidance.
So now I'm asking myself, "Is there really ANY AC that fits Parkchester's J window?" Or is the lack of one something that was just conveniently left out... and we're left just renewing our leases, believing, expecting, even hoping that there actually is but we just haven't found it yet. Hmmm.
Who knows? Maybe the LG deserves a third look, but I'm too frustrated to bother with it right now.
Aarrrghhh!!! This should never have been so difficult. Maybe I need to call PC Richards or something. Thanks for letting me vent about this grueling ordeal.
