There is currently a petition going on to get the theatre re-opened. I saw the news story on Channel 12. No info was given on where to go to sign it but I'm sure you can google it.

I was hoping another movie chain would rent that space. I may not be living in Parkchester when this place is built so I won't go into why it would be a good or bad.

American Theater in Parkchester set to close on 9/16/13
Bronx community members are outraged over the closing of a popular movie theater on East Avenue in Parkchester.
The American Theater, which has been open in Parkchester, Bronx, New York since 1940, is set to close in the next four days.
Five years ago, the American was leased to Bow Tie Cinemas, and renovations were made to keep patrons coming to the theater. However, crowds are not enough to keep the films rolling.
The management at Bow Tie Cinemas sent News 12 a statement saying that their lease cannot be renewed.
