Me and its 2013 now. The problem has been going on for 10 whole years. That just gives them a reason to step foot into your apt, they will act like they fixed the problem, but then the problem is back again, so the problem was never fixed in the first place. Makes a lot of sense right? Not. These buildings have been here since the 1940s (or around that time when people started moving into the complex), so the buildings are in fact old, but the problem I'm having is that they never really upgraded the buildings totally. We still have old 1950s elevators that breakdown from time to time, there are still old sinks, cabinets, etc. And this is what we are paying $1000+ for. When I moved into this apt in 2002, it was $775.00. Now they are charging an arm and a leg for crappy apartments.

Thank you! I am very interested in your outcome and would like a follow up, if you don't mind. Happy New Year and thanks for offering a follow up on how your court case turns out.

File an HP Action with Housing Court at 1118 Grand Concourse. It costs $45 to file and the court will schedule you with an inspector from the Department of Housing Preservation & Development (HPD). Management will jump to fix your bathroom which is what they did in my case, however they will probably try to do some shotty patch job but you will have the opportunity to speak with the Judge or the Court Attorney and have your concerns heard when you go to court. I'm in the process of doing this now. I will let you know how it turns out.
I've had a leak in my bathroom for about six months (it's probably been a lot longer). I've had the handymen and Service Department come out so many times I have lost count. I wish I had kept all of my appointment slips for my court date but usually when they came to my apartment, they didn't do much anyway. When I filed my HP Action, they came running out to fix my bathroom. They had to tear down the wall because it was so rotten and damaged but they never really addressed the problem of why my bathroom was leaking. All they have done is put up a new wall (which looks sloppy because it's uneven and bumpy and the tiles at the bottom just look like they are swelling from the wall. I know that in about two months, I'm going to see signs of my bathroom leaking again. If you're interested, I will let you know how my court case turns out.

Who else beside me is having a continual problem with their bathroom walls and ceiling in constant need of repair? I haven't even lived here three years yet, and so far my bathroom has had to get the ceiling and walls stripped to the bricks, dug out due to water damage to the point that even the maintenance that come to fix it complain that more needs to be done? Then they have to redo plaster, and replace tiles.
I have more pink slips than rental receipts. (slips you sign and get a copy of after a repair) What can I do? When I call, they come, however - I am tired of the constant calling and them putting a bandage on something that needs surgery.
I think my bathroom stays in tact for about two months before is starts swelling again.
I need to hear from someone and what recourse have you taken to finally change this situation - short of moving?
