I have neighbors above me who walk in heels and stomp as they walk around the apartment. I am about to call security and go with them up the their apartment. It is so annoying and inconsiderate. They should have carpeting but it seems like the noise has gotten worse w/in the last couple of months. My neighbors below me do not have a problem with me at all, but I am the one constantly being interrupted by my upstairs neighbors. I have a feeling this is going to get ugly.

Call the Parkchester management office and make arrangements to have a mediation with your downstairs neighbor. Make sure you bring a lawyer,

I also have a neighbor who constantly complains. I have wall-to-wall carpeting with padding. I have a 7 year old child. Everyone deserves the right to enjoy their apartment. We all pay rent and we all have the same rights. I do feel that some people are so super-sensitive that they don't belong living in apartment buildings. People have to understand that there are families living around them. What would you prefer, that I tie my son up to a chair to prevent him from walking across the floor. Why should I ask my son to sit still all day in a chair? Why should I not walk to my bathroom or my kitchen to get some food? I know my neighbor downstairs actually does eat and walk to his kitchen from time to time. Do you really think that people are purposefully walking hard across the floors. I don't even think about my neighbor when I get up, why should I be controlled by a super-sensitive neighbor who doesn't give a damn about me and our family? We are not being obnoxious and playing loud music or dancing or having any kind of fun in our apartment. We are simply living. Why should anybody have to live like that?

Yeah!!!!!, not everyone wants carpeting in their apartment.

Yes HBK216,
You are definitely right.  It was unfair of me to call this woman senile.

I will not assume that the elderly woman is senile as it is not fair to stereotype like that. However it sounds like you have taken decent measures to protect from noise yet she still complains. Some people have a low tolerance for noise & such individuals have no business living in a building.

Regular everyday life noise is to be expected & if people have such issues with it, they don't belong in Parkchester or any other buildings.

I used to live in the community until I moved out in April to back to the suburbs (not by choice believe me). While I don't miss many of the lowlifes who continue to hold the neighborhood down, I do miss  the convenience, especially from the 6 train which is the best in the system!

I agree, we need to be fair and considerate, but this is a problem everywhere.  Noise, either from your neighbors or just the sounds of the building shifting, is always an issue when you live in a building.  The only way to be free of any noise would be to invest in your own home but even then, you may have the next door neighbor who has a party every weekend.

Noise is just the sounds of the world around you.

Take care
