I am looking to purchase a Friedrich AC unit but can't seem to find the list of allowed ACs on the forum.  Someone posted a link to an excel file a couple years back but the link no longer works. Any info would be appreciated.R

I have the same question. Looks like no one from management cares to answer it.

When you look at the flier they may have posted in your building (it has disappeared from mine) you see that they say //www.parkchesterinfo.com/parkchester-air-conditioner/?q=air+conditioner" target="_top" rel="follow - Friedrich air conditioners make the right size, but that there may be other brands. It is very difficult to find the right size unit if you search online since on most sites you cannot search by unit dimensions (except on the A. J. Madison site, but they do not carry any that fit the J bedroom-window size, which is what I'm looking for). I saw elsewhere on this website that PC Richards was recommended for buying air conditioners that fit, but again, when I clicked on every Friedrich unit on their website (a huge pain) there not one unit that came within .5" of the specs Parkchester wants.

I ordered a unit that I thought would fit my window since it was a Friedrich with a height of 15.5", but when the technician came to install it today he told me it was too wide at 24". This is insane because for safety reasons, only the height needs to be close to the height of the window frame, but slide-out units are designed to fit varying-width windows. Parkchester, however, has cheap pre-cut pieces of styrofoam with green painted particle board adhered to them that make the window fit only a 20" wide unit. They refuse to alter the size of these little panels. They say it is to create a uniform look (so purely aesthetic, no safety issue. But what looks good about a beat up piece of used painted styrofoam, I don't know. My brand-new slider panes that came with my unit would look a lot nicer, and allow the unit to be centered in the window.) It is absolutely insane. It is bad enough that there are hardly any 15-15.5" high units that will fit these windows, but none publicly advertised on the internet that I have found that fit the width as well.

The Parkchester technician as well as the Service Department told me that I should have called PC Richards in Co-Op City to get the exact model number that will fit, and they assured me that they carry one that will fit even though there is nothing listed on their website with the right dimensions. This information would have been very helpful to put on the flier. It would have saved me the $450 I spent on the wrong Friedrich unit, my installation fee, and 1 1/2 wasted days off from work (since you also have to go in to the Service Dept. during their limited business hours in person to hand them a money order to make your appointment, and no, you're not allowed to mail in your fee and have them call you when they receive it, or, heaven forbid, do something online.). The woman in the Service Dept. told me they don't put this info on the flier because they don't have a contract with PC Richard, they just supply them with the flier and let PC Richards guide customers. If they give them the flier, why can't they mention that fact on the flier? Or why not just provide a list of units that will fit, and allow me to find them in stores or online knowing that I have the right unit numbers at least? Why would they assume that I would go to PC Richards in Co-Op City and tell them I'm a Parkchester resident? But I guess if you call them to complain, they'll give you the hint over the phone. Idiotic.

This whole process is obscenely and unnecessarily arcane. If Parkchester hopes to lure new residents to their community, they had better start providing some service for the outrageous fees they charge for things such as a simple air conditioner installation.

I am very annoyed with the management of this issue. If Parkchester would like to redeem itself, it can contact me. I'm the woman who complained on 6/21 about a J window installation and requested a refund of the install fee. If they can make this situation right, I'll consider recommending them to others again. Otherwise, I'll be posting negative reviews of their management policies on websites such as this one.

I completely understand your frustration.  We are living in parkchester--it's an "affordable" place to live, but to subject us, mostly middle-class, working-class, citizens to such high pricing to be able to breathe at night is preposterous!  I suffered so badly last night because we simply cannot afford these AC units!

I am having the exact same problem. ALL the Friedrich air conditioners - now and even 3 or 4 years ago when I researched it - that even come close to the J window specs (under 6500 BTU's) are either 12' or 14' high.

Yet Parkchester indicated that they "found that the AC units manufactured by Friedrich are properly sized for the new windows." But the specific criteria for the J window are that it can be between 15' and 15.5' high and must be between 19.5' and 20' wide.

So I was looking at the //www.parkchesterinfo.com/parkchester-air-conditioner/?q=friedrich+air+conditioner" target="_top" rel="follow - Friedrich XQ06L10A and the XQ05L10A, but I never got, and now am afraid to because the office is confirming it really must be at least 15' high, and that this won't work. Funny, last time I called some time back, a girl told me that because of the mounting materials, it would fit. I was a bit leary then, and before you knew it the summer was over. This time though, no such luck. Their materials say Friedrich AC's work, but then all of the applicable Friedrich's are not tall enough. So which is it??   When I asked Parkchester for guidance as to which specific Friedrich models work, they don't have any answers. I asked again today, and was told they have installed some LG's and Samsungs, but she didn't know the models (and I can't even be sure they were installed into J windows).

//www.shoptions.net/samsung/?g2=//www.lg.com/us/air-conditioners/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow - Samsung's website was not user friendly at all. I got so frustrated with their layout and search function based on Price Range in terms of "R's. ,000" (wt?) that I just closed the window. (Couldn't they have search criteria in terms of BTU's or something?)

And when you go to //www.shoptions.net/lg/?g2=//www.samsunghvac.com/residential" target="_blank" rel="nofollow - LG's site , the only unit that matched the BTU limitation, the LP6000ER, has no real specs. I always thought highly of LG's products, but if they can't be bothered to place simple DIMENSIONS somewhere in the specs and downloads on their own product website, I really have to think twice.

This is ridiculous. I have lived here for several years, and began the search before, just got tired of worrying about it, and then soon enough, the summer would be over, so I never got one....but we just had a sweltering day yesterday, so I'm looking again. It is soooo frustrating to have to suffer, and not be able to get any real guidance.

So now I'm asking myself, "Is there really ANY AC that fits Parkchester's J window?" Or is the lack of one something that was just conveniently left out... and we're left just renewing our leases, believing, expecting, even hoping that there actually is but we just haven't found it yet. Hmmm.

Who knows? Maybe the LG deserves a third look, but I'm too frustrated to bother with it right now.

Aarrrghhh!!! This should never have been so difficult.  Maybe I need to call PC Richards or something. Thanks for letting me vent about this grueling ordeal.

one pproblem that i had when dealing with //www.shoptions.net/pcrichard/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow - p.c. richards when looking into purchasing an //www.parkchesterinfo.com/parkchester-air-conditioner/?q=air+conditioners" target="_top" rel="follow - air conditioner was that some of their sales people seemed more concerned with making a sale rather than helping me buy the correct air conditioner. for example: one guy insisted that a 7,500 btu conditioner was the right one for my bedroon.

now it specifically says on the flyer that parkchester hands out, " not exceeding 6,500 btu for bedrooms". this guy was adament about me buying the expensive (and incorrect) unit. like most people on this site, i too, threw up my hands in disgust and said forget it. i truly believe that p.c. richards, knowing that we parkchester residents have no other choice, since they are "the only game in town", are overcharging on units.

Apparently theres a place on Morris Park Ave that supposedly sell the air conditioners that fit the parkchester windows, united appliance i think its called phone number 718-829-9090, the bedroom one is $500 and the living room one is $800. i have been suffering as well cause i cant afford even the $500 one, plus the $100 installation fee. you shouldnt have to pay 600 for an air conditioner!!!!

I can't believe I am reading posts from 2 years ago and this problem still exists...This parkchester website has the measurements listed, but the only ac I can find that is even close to that is $500!!

This is so ridiculous. I've been living here for 4 years, never gotten a ac bc I refused to pay $650 in total to get an ac that I could get for $300.00. It is just ridiculous and a rip off. However I really cant take another heat wave without one. I just called to that place on Morris Ave. $569.00 for the bedroom unit. Are u freaking serious?!?!?! that is just insane!!! And no credit cards just cash!!!

I am livid with Parkchester's policy. The reason it exists (the AC problem in particular) is because we have just been sucking it up and paying anyway or suffering in silence or on these boards. We need to get together and stop this madness...collectively. I absolutely feel like I have purchased a project apartment. Forget about helpful assistance from the service department? Why should we? Pay $900 plus over $100 installation for ONE type of AC when there are MANY that would suffice? We don't have to!!!!   We need to make them comply to our needs. This is serious and dangerous for all of us. WE have to do something about it as it does not affect them AT ALL.   Open to suggestions. Stay safe and healthy.

I bought an ac through //www.shoptions.net/amazon/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow - Amazon.com . {saw it at BestBuy, but it was cheaper on Amazon} But it was 4" too small and they refused to install it. He said "I'm not going to tell you what to get or where to get it, but PC Richards in Coop City has ac's specific for Parkchester.". PC Richards is a crappy store w/NO REFUNDS. Why couldn't they have a deal w/ //www.shoptions.net/bestbuy/" target="_blank" rel="nofollow - Best Buy ?!

I think Parkchester have a deal with PC Richards and is getting a cut from these sales, which is why its priced so high. This is my first summer living in Parkchester and I find is ridiculous how their system operates. Must cover 80% of the floor, Like carpet is cheap. $150 month,y to park in the lots, which is not guaranteed so if you never find a spot like me who gets home from work at midnight, They don't care as long as their getting that money, and this AC Non-sense takes the cake.PEOPLE CAN DIE OF HEAT. Limiting tenants from their health just to have a uniform look is SO INCONSIDERATE. There's families with baby's in their apartment that cant afford to spend $650 to be save. The have to turn right around and pay rent. Honestly I regret signing my lease and cant wait til its up so I can move to a place with less restrictions. To those considering moving into Parkchester I have one thing to say. THEY DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR TENANTS, ITS'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY...

I just moved in here and im beyond annoyed. Why have such beautiful wood floors if we have to cover them?? Cost me $1400 to put carpet then the 3 ac i have dont fit the kind they want. I have to spend $600 for 1 ac to fit that stupid window i think they should change the windows. U dont get any air thru there. & any air i do gets smells like curry lol i love cury but dont want to smell it all day Why have a window that open out the damn glass is blockin any air that may come in. My room feels like an oven today its 90 degres im working and i don't want to go home to that hot room. Especially with my 2 year old. I call the office to pit the ac in they tell me its $100 and they have to send an electrician to put an outlet. Why u rent me an apartment tell me to buy this expensive ac and then tell me theres no outlet to plug it in and now they are going to charge me for electrical. Parkchester looks beautiful but im tellin u its all about the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
